Advance Wars: Dual Strike
AWDS: Normal Campaign Guide
After you have bought Advance Wars DS, the first thing you are probably going to do is play the Campaign mode... Its first missions are a tutorial to teach new players how to play Advance Wars. However, missions get increasingly harder. If you need help to make it through, we will help you. If you want general advice on the missions, or step-by-step walkthroughs, you can find it in this page.
The scoring at the end of a mission is done on a 300 point scale: 100 for technique (units lost), 100 for power (enemy units destroyed) and 100 for speed. Your score is also the number of points you get to buy goods in Hachi's Battle Maps store. A perfect battle gives you enough points to buy two character color edits, or slightly more than half of a VS or War Room map. For perfect technique you must lose less than 1/5 (rounded up) of the units you've deployed (this requirement is 1/10 in War Room). For perfect power, you have to destroy, in a single turn, at least 1/10 (rounded up) of the total number of enemy units deployed. And finally, for perfect speed, you must complete the map in a number of days equal or less than that map's specific limit (provided in the mission pages).
In the walkthrough, a 2N means to move the unit two tiles to the north (up direction). A 2E 4S 1W means two tiles east (right), then four tiles to the south (down) and then one tile to the west (left), in this order. Keep in mind that the AI is somewhat random and will not always act as predicted. Our guides are separated into three depths: the more detailed it is, the less reliable. The map overview is fully trustable, but the step-by-step walkthrough may not be. This NC guide will not use skills, so you don't have to build your COs' levels to follow it. However, feel free to use skills if you want, it will only make the missions easier!
In the mission pages you will find difficulty rankings. They were arbitrarily given by me, and are more of an "opinion" than a "truth". My rankings were based on MjEmirzian's AW1 guide's rankings. (thanks for letting me use them!)
- * Tutorial: A very easy map, which requires little to no strategy to complete and to S-rank. A learning map for new players.
- ** Training: An easy map that requires minimal strategy to S-rank. Can still be considered a training room map.
- *** Beginner: This map requires some intelligent battle planning and general unit movement along with basic tactical skills. It's still not much more difficult than a training room map, though. If you have trouble with this type of map, go back to the training missions.
- **** Intermediate: A four star map poses the average level of difficulty. This map varies in its challenges, but common elements are fog of war, CO specific strategies, intelligent battle planning, and battle on two types of terrain. You will need to know common campaign tactics moderately well in order to succeed.
Now that you know the basics... on to the guides!
